Pattern Design - Hexagon

Another procedural pattern reconstruction made in Substance 3D Designer and rendered with Blender.
This one is based on famous carpet pattern from Stanley Kubrick's 'Shining' - a psychological horror movie from 1980.
The pattern is called Hicks' Hexagon, and was originally designed in 1960s by one of the most outstanding British interior designers, David Hicks. David patterns were noted for using bold colours, mixing antique and modern furnishings, and contemporary art for his famous clientele. He first started to design patterned carpets and fabrics in 1963 when he couldn’t find anything on the market to his taste. He did not however collaborate on the filming of The Shining, and the carpet which appeared in The Overlook Hotel was either an off-the shelf purchase for the film or a copy made for filming.
It has become the most iconic carpet to ever feature in film and itself is as much a part of the movie as Jack Nicholson or Scatman Crothers.
While the exterior of the Hotel was filmed at The Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood in Oregon, USA, the interior (influenced by the interiors of the Ahwahnee Hoteel at Yosemite) were film sets created in Elstree Studios.
Cheers!
